Dr Michael Haid has over 30 years of experience and technical expertise in project and contract management, engineering, and technology development in the fields of syngas production, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, and Power-to-X (PtX). Since July 2025, he has been serving as an independent consultant at Atoma.
Previously, Michael spent more than 10 years as Chief Executive Officer of EDL Anlagenbau. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in advancing sustainable technologies, products, and services for the refining and hydrocarbon processing industries, including PtX, plastics-to-oil, residue processing, and the production of lubricants, greases, and waxes.
Michael is the architect of the HyKero project, which aims at the industrial production of 50,000 tons per year of eSAF. This project is considered one of Germany’s key lighthouse initiatives in the SAF sector. He played a central role in the development of HyKero’s technology and plant design, as well as in arranging supply and offtake agreements, financing, and securing public funding.
Prior to joining EDL, Michael held various engineering and management positions at international engineering and contracting firms, including TGE, Technip, and Edeleanu.
He studied process engineering in Karlsruhe, Germany, and Auckland, New Zealand, and holds a PhD in process engineering. Michael is also the holder of several patents in the fields of PtX and plastics-to-oil.
